Who is sicker, Vick or PETA?

The Michael Vick dogfighting scandal is morphing into a broader NFL dogfighting scandal, as other NFL players also appear to be involved in this very weird pastime.

But as animal-rights groups get more aggressive in their accusations and demands, the whole scene is getting stranger and stranger. And the closer you look, the more you see the deep conflicts in core values that fracture our society.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wants the NFL to "add cruelty to animals -- in all its forms -- to its personal conduct policy." What, for PETA, is "cruelty to animals -- in all its forms"? According to its Web site, we should not eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment or abuse animals in any way.

So PETA's problem is well beyond the sick and cruel murdering of these creatures of which Vick and others are allegedly guilty. Dogfighting for entertainment, or any other use of animals for entertainment, is itself, for PETA, cruelty.

PETA, jesus where to even start? It always cracks me up when someone wearing leather belts, shoes either partially or entirely made of leather, and wearing who knows what other animal parts, tells me how evil it is to eat meat. I can at least respect someone who chooses to not eat meat. I am just a carnivore and am equally comfortable with that. It starts to get weird when the they try not wear anything made from animals. Hell, if our ancestors had tried to do that they would have starved or frozen to death and mankind would be extinct. So getting back to PETA, I can only say that their agenda is radical and I do not approve of radicals (regardless of agenda or political persuasion). Also, it's not like there is a group out there called PATA (People against the ethical treatment of animals) that is lobbying against them. I just found the whole article funny in how it pokes fun at the inconsistency of the whole movement. Let's all just be kind to our pets and we can all do without PETA. As for Michael Vick, I think the multiple tens of millions that he just lost is plenty of a lesson. He will begin paying after he is out of prison and gets to live every single day with the realization of just how much he threw away with the stupidity of his actions. Such a shame...

You conservatives are anti anything for the sake of it and bash beyond the actual content of "open & well minded people" a.k.a liberals and free thinkers. This issue is not a political issue, it is not a blakc and white issue or as some are saying a "culture thing" it is ignorance, arrogance and the lack of respect for the feelings of "innocent" animals who are turned to nothing but for mans entertainment....i.e. Ted Nugent and Dick Cheney, hunting, killing just to kill. Your not men "hunting-sporting" with a Rifle and Scope sitting in a BUSH like the weak minded people you are affraid to confront like a man would. Go hunt your selfs and please become extinct. Yeah you know why that quote is lacking, wherever you obtained it from, is because God does not exist and if does (as I have read the Bible about 5 times front to back) would be ashamed of the brutal things people justify in his name. Which by the way is very a form of blasphemy.

I am not a vegetarian by the way and "meat" has nothing to do with it, it is about CRUELTY, UNNECCESARRY CRUELTY. You know that type of treating is a huge attribute of a majority of Murderers......AKA Chrisitans. Mick Vick only said Jesus cuz he was caught.

Hmmmmm..intersting though disjointed debate. I don't think anyone here is arguing in favor of animal cruelty. I would however take the stance that I find nothing wrong with hunting if you are eating what you kill. I don't believe in sport hunting but that's just me. Mathew k, I am not sure what exactly I said that set you off, but would be glad to discuss it further if you point me in the right direction.

I am a vegetarian and my decision to become one came from my love of animals. It was hard for me to justify eating meat, but condeming hunters. As for Vick, what he did was beyond murder, though that by itself should bother people more then it does, but he tortured them, viciously. This fact here is what people need to focus on. Not his career, culture, life, fame, or race. His morals, because obviously he is lacking them.

Yeah this part of your blog confuses me a bit:

It always cracks me up when someone wearing leather belts, shoes either partially or entirely made of leather, and wearing who knows what other animal parts, tells me how evil it is to eat meat. I can at least respect someone who chooses to not eat meat. I am just a carnivore and am equally comfortable with that. It starts to get weird when the they try not wear anything made from animals.

It seems you have a problem with non meat eaters wearing leather, but find them freaks if they avoid it? Hmmm?....

Amy, in addition to finding my own grammatical error when you posted just now (oops..) I found your first comment to be very appropriate and I probably could have gone into deeper detail on the way Vick treated/abused/murdered these poor animals. As to your second point/question let me clarify. I was refering to people I have met that disavow all things animal. They don't eat them and try to attempt to use nothing made from animals. I always seem to find something (perhaps I do it for my own amusement) that comes from some type of animal that they use or are wearing. Anyway, I find that degree of belief to be kind of strange (this is just my perception and it doesn't mean these people are all weirdos but the one I have met are a bit odd). anyway I am trying to share my perception without necessarily branding everyone on the planet who believes that way. Poor attempt I guess but political correctness as you can see is not my strong suit..:) Thanks for posting.

It's a joke.
